About Plastic Surgery

One of the first things that you should know about plastic surgery is that the changes you make to your face or body should be done because you want them and not because someone else wants to see changes. Also, keep in mind that most surgeries that change your appearance are designed to be permanent. This means that you should talk to our doctor about the benefits and the risks. You also need to look at what your body could look like if there are other physical changes that take place, such as weight gain or weight loss, as these changes can alter the results of the plastic surgery procedure.

It’s also a good idea to learn about the differences between plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Plastic surgery is performed to enhance the natural appearance that you have while reconstructive surgery is performed to correct abnormalities that include birth defects, issues that are a result of an infection or trauma, and congenital abnormalities that occur over time. Since plastic surgery is usually elective, most insurance companies won’t cover the procedure. However, reconstructive surgery may be covered because it’s often considered a medical procedure instead of traditional plastic surgery.

After plastic surgery, there will be some time that you will need to take off from doing other activities so that you can recover. Your recovery time will likely be different than others who have had the same kind of surgery or a different procedure because each person is different. Our doctor can give you a general estimate, but the time that it takes for you to feel like doing daily tasks once again could be shorter or longer.

When you talk to our doctor about plastic surgery, you need to find out what kind of anesthesia will be used and if there will be any special instructions that you need to follow. You also need to find out what kind of equipment will be used and what kind of materials will be used if you’re getting any implants. Patient Concern: Loose skin, lack of stomach definition, “love handles”⁣ ⁣ Treatment: Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) ; liposuction of the flanks (AKA “love handles”)⁣ ⁣ Surgery Details: Full tummy tuck was performed with tightening of stomach muscles as well as fat reduction with selective liposuction⁣ ⁣ Patient Update: Absolutely thrilled with her results, happy in more contoured clothing, and feels she has an improved contour with increased tightening of her body shape⁣ ⁣ The aging process, genetics, hormonal or weight fluctuations and pregnancies can all leave you with excess skin around the stomach and muscle weakness that makes the stomach bulge forward. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) helps to flatten the stomach and tighten the skin giving the body a more youthful, contoured shape. If you’re interested in a tummy tuck procedure, please email us at appointments@jasonemermd.com for a consultation with expert breast and body surgeon @robertcohenmd.
