Dysport candidates should be physically healthy and have reasonable expectations for the treatment. Candidates must be aware that Dysport has a temporary effect on overactive muscles and that additional injections are necessary to maintain results.
As a wrinkle reducing treatment, Dysport is intended for moderate to severe lines and creases. Patients with very mild wrinkles can often resolve their concerns with skin rejuvenation and collagen-stimulation treatments, as recommended by Dr. Emer.
However, patients with minor wrinkles can still be candidates for neuromodulator injections. Dysport has gained popularity among patients in their 20s and 30s as a wrinkle prevention treatment. Keeping muscle movements minimal from an early age helps these patients avoid developing frown lines and other facial wrinkles.
Dysport’s formula includes a protein from cow’s milk, which can make some patients better candidates for Botox or Xeomin, neither of which contain this type of protein. HOW DOES DYSPORT WORK?
Dysport belongs to a class of cosmetic injectables known as neuromodulators. Dysport’s active ingredient is botulinum toxin type A, which is the same neurotoxin found in other popular neuromodulators like Botox, Jeuveau, and Xeomin. Neuromodulators can be used to interrupt specific functions of the nervous system in order to treat various medical and cosmetic issues.
As a wrinkle treatment, Dysport works to release dynamic wrinkles by disrupting nerve-to-muscle communications. Once the Dysport takes effect, the treated muscle will temporarily cease to receive the nerve signals that would otherwise cause the muscle to activate and contract.
Since muscle contractions, and particularly excessive muscle activity, create dynamic wrinkles, when the muscles become inactive, the existing expression lines are released. The skin can then flatten out, making the creases less noticeable if not erasing them altogether. Dysport also stops the targeted wrinkles from growing deeper.

Most patients find Dysport treatments convenient and painless. A Dysport injection session can take as little as 10 minutes for small treatment areas.
Before the injections are performed, the treatment area will be cleansed. The optimal locations for the injections will then be identified. Dr. Emer is precise and particular about where the targeted muscles are injected to ensure patient safety and the best possible results.
A topical numbing product can be applied if you are worried about the injections causing discomfort. However, many people find this step is not necessary. Dr. Emer uses tiny needles for Dysport injections, so the treatment is not considered painful. Most patients experience the injections as a feeling of pressure or a minor pinching sensation.

WHAT IS DYSPORT RECOVERY LIKE?
One of the great things about Dysport is that it requires little-to-no deviation from your normal routine. You can go home right after an injection session. It is possible to experience mild swelling, redness, bruising, and/or discomfort for a brief time after a Dysport procedure.
Overall, aftercare is minimal, involving a short period of restricted activity and taking care not to cause unwanted spreading of the injected product, which could compromise your results. To ensure the intended outcome, you’ll be advised not to massage, apply pressure to, or rub the treated area. Additionally, excessive or intense physical exertion should be avoided for 24 hours after the injections.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT DYSPORT RESULTS
Some patients see the initial effects of Dysport treatments in as little as 48 hours after their injections. For others, results begin to show between 3-7 days after the procedure. Gradual improvements will continue for several days. You can expect to enjoy the full extent of your Dysport results about two weeks after your treatment.
Like all neuromodulators, Dysport provides temporary improvements. Its effects will diminish over time, so periodic retreatment is needed to prevent the treated condition from recurring.
The longevity of your Dysport results will depend on your biology and the cosmetic concern or medical condition being treated. In general, additional injection sessions will be needed at four to five month intervals.

HOW IS DYSPORT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NEUROMODULATORS?
Dysport’s formulation of botulinum toxin type A is proprietary, so many patients have a different experience with it in comparison to its competitors. A significant number of patients find that noticeable improvements occur as quickly as within two days after Dysport injections, while other neuromodulators typically take about a week to deliver results.
Another benefit reported by many patients is that Dysport results can last as long as five months. Other neuromodulators last three to four months, on average, and thus require more frequent injection sessions.
The proteins in Dysport have a lower molecular mass compared with those in other neuromodulators. This means Dysport is more likely to diffuse, which can make it an excellent choice for larger treatment sites such as the forehead and the armpits.
