WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS?

A breast lift with implants procedure is a popular approach to breast augmentation with mastopexy. While breast augmentation with implants and mastopexy are often performed as stand-alone treatments, some women cannot achieve their desired improvements without the benefits of both procedures.

  • Mastopexy – Breast lift surgery involves reshaping breast tissue, excising excess skin, and lifting the breasts to a higher and more aesthetic position on the chest wall.
  • Breast implant surgery – Breast implants are specialized medical devices designed to provide long-lasting cosmetic enhancement. Implants offer a high degree of predictability and customization when it comes to recontouring and/or augmenting the breasts.

RIGHT FOR YOU?

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS?

In some instances, minor ptosis or skin laxity will be resolved with implant placement alone, as the increase in volume can fill out and subtly lift lax skin. If moderate to severe skin laxity, stretched skin, and/or downward-pointing nipples are a concern, breast augmentation without a breast lift would not produce a favorable outcome.

Dr. Rojas is meticulous about identifying each patient’s safest and most advantageous treatment option. During your initial consultation, Dr. Rojas will gather the information he needs to determine whether you are a candidate for a breast lift with implants. This process will include a physical examination of the treatment area, a conversation about your expectations for the procedure, and a review of pertinent medical records.

Breast implant surgery may not be necessary for patients who are good candidates for a breast lift, want a modest increase in breast size, and have ample natural breast tissue. In such cases, Dr. Rojas can often create the effect of fuller breasts by lifting and remodeling drooping breast tissue. Patients seeking more substantial augmentation will be advised to combine mastopexy and breast implant surgery.

Candidates for mastopexy with breast implant surgery desire a more youthful breast position in addition to more voluptuous breasts. However, not every patient whose cosmetic goals involve aspects of both breast augmentation and mastopexy will require a breast lift and breast implant surgery.

SALINE OR SILICONE IMPLANTS: WHICH IS BEST FOR A BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS?

The breast implant selection process can be both exciting and overwhelming for patients due to the wide variety of options. Dr. Rojas understands that successful breast surgery outcomes require that the surgeon and patient share the same vision. He spends a considerable amount of time helping patients refine and articulate their cosmetic goals before he provides recommendations.

Dr. Rojas can provide amazing results by pairing mastopexy with saline breast implants or silicone implants. While certain cosmetic goals will necessitate a particular type of implant, the choice between silicone and saline implants is frequently a matter of patient preference. Dr. Rojas strives to support patients in making an informed decision by addressing their questions and offering access to relevant tools and resources.

Saline implants are designed to give the breasts a full, round look. They consist of a silicone shell that is filled with sterile salt water. The volume of saline used to fill the shell varies from one patient to another based on their preferred breast size. Since the implant shell is inserted before it is filled, saline implants typically involve a smaller incision than silicone implants.

Some patients prefer saline implants for health reasons, as sterile salt water cannot harm the body if the implant ruptures and leaks. Saline ruptures are notoriously easy to diagnose, as well.

In the past, saline implants were associated with less realistic outcomes than silicone due to their firmness and the perception that saline implant shells were prone to rippling. However, saline implants can now closely mimic the look and feel of natural breasts, thanks to advancements in implant shell design.

Silicone breast implants are made with thick silicone gel, which is encased in an implant shell. Silicone implants can be customized for size and other attributes, including:

  • Profile – The profile of an implant determines how much it projects from the chest. Options include a spectrum of flatter, low profile implants to high profile implants that provide generous cleavage. High profile implants have small base widths and typically look best when a patient has a narrow chest. The broader base of low profile implants tends to work well for patients with wider chests.
  • Firmness – You can choose between several variations of soft, firm, and stiff silicone implants. Traditional silicone implants are relatively soft, while newer, form-stable, or “gummy bear” silicone implants are made with a more cohesive silicone gel and are firmer to the touch.
  • Shape – Some silicone implants have a round shape, like saline implants. Silicone implants are also available in a form that resembles its namesake. Teardrop implants feature a projection point in the full, rounded lower breast. Teardrop implants have an anatomic shape that produces a more natural-looking final result than round implants.
Like saline implants, silicone gel implants can rupture and leak. While leaking saline is harmless, leaking silicone implants should be removed in a timely manner to protect the patient’s health.
Silicone implant ruptures can be diagnosed with an MRI. The FDA recommends that women with cohesive silicone implants have an MRI every two years to confirm the integrity of these devices.

Pre-operatively, Dr. Rojas will make surgical markings on your breasts to create a visual plan for the procedure. You will be able to review the details of your surgery with Dr. Rojas and get clarification on any unanswered questions at this time.

It generally takes one to three hours to complete mastopexy with breast implant surgery. You will be under the effect of anesthesia while Dr. Rojas performs your surgery, so you will not experience any discomfort.

Dr. Rojas will begin by making the appropriate incisions for your breast lift with implants. This aspect of your procedure will be discussed during your consultation. The size and placement of your incisions will determine how visible or discreet your post-surgery marks will be.

The most discreet option is a periareolar incision, which tracks the outer boundary of the areola. A periareolar incision plus a vertical incision from the lowest point of the areola to the breast crease, or circumvertical incision, is often used for moderate breast lifts. When a breast lift involves extensive modifications, a horizontal incision that follows the breast crease can be paired with a circumvertical incision to create an “anchor,” or inverted “T” incision.

Next, Dr. Rojas will progress through the alterations detailed in your surgical plan. Your breast implant surgery with mastopexy will include several or all of the following:

  • Lifting sagging tissue
  • Creating appropriate breast pockets for your implants
  • Placing the implants over or under the pectoral muscle, as previously discussed with you
  • Remodeling and reshaping breast tissue
  • Skin excision
  • Repositioning your nipples
  • Reducing the size of the areola

Once he has completed all of the necessary changes, Dr. Rojas will use sutures to secure your enhanced breast contours and close the incisions. A dressing will be applied before you are taken to a recovery area within the surgical facility, where you will be monitored until Dr. Rojas determines that you can safely continue your recovery at home.

A breast lift with implants is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to go home the same day as your surgery. Before you are released, Dr. Rojas will provide you with vital information on how you can support the healing process and minimize the possibility of complications as you recover.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR RECOVERY FROM A BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS

Plan for a week or so of downtime. It is important that you prioritize rest, so your body can dedicate maximum energy to healing. Eating a nutritious diet and drinking plenty of water will also help to facilitate an expedient recovery.

Post-op discomfort, swelling, and bruising can be eased by applying cold compresses, keeping the upper body elevated, and wearing a compression bra, as directed by Dr. Rojas. IV therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are two highly recommended aftercare treatments available at our practice to support the healing process.

To prevent infection and minimize post-surgery marks, be sure to follow your aftercare instructions for changing your incision dressings and cleansing the incision sites. As an additional precaution, you will be prescribed antibiotic medications.

Physical activity restrictions are necessary as you recover. Subjecting your incisions to stress and strain by rushing back to your normal routine can jeopardize your results and prolong your recovery. Dr. Rojas will guide you through an incremental transition from minimal to high intensity activity levels over the course of about six weeks after your procedure.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS FROM A BREAST LIFT WITH BREAST IMPLANTS?

Immediately after your breast lift with implants in Beverly Hills, you will notice a higher breast position and an increase in breast size. You can expect ongoing improvements as the healing process progresses. Your final results will be evident when post-op swelling has fully resolved, which can take three to six months.

HOW LONG WILL MASTOPEXY WITH BREAST IMPLANTS RESULTS LAST?

Extending the longevity of your results is best accomplished by maintaining a stable weight, abstaining from unhealthy habits, and taking action to slow and prevent the effects of aging. Non-invasive collagen stimulating treatments like thread lifting and external radiofrequency therapy are recommended at regular intervals to help keep skin firm, elastic, and smooth.

Breast implants are designed to last for 10 years or more, depending on the type of implant. It is not uncommon for implants to last 20 years, but the likelihood of ruptures and complications will increase with each year that passes beyond an implant’s recommended use. Dr. Rojas can advise you when to anticipate the need for implant removal with or without replacement.

IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO A BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS?

Dr. Rojas also provides breast lift surgery in combination with breast augmentation with fat transfer. With fat grafting, liposuction is performed to harvest fat from the predetermined area. The extracted fat is then purified and injected into the breasts. Fat transfer for breast augmentation can be a great option for patients who:

  • Prefer a natural treatment approach
  • Desire a minor to moderate increase in volume
  • Have excess, unwanted body fat they want to eliminate for slimmer contours in another area of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, or upper arms

HOW MUCH WILL MY BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS COST?

Since your surgical plan is specifically designed for your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals, an accurate price estimate cannot be provided until you meet with Dr. Rojas for your consultation. Considerations that impact the total cost of breast lift with implant surgery include:

  • The size and type of breast implants you choose
  • The surgical techniques required
  • The inclusion or exclusion of nipple repositioning and/or areola reduction
