In the hands of world-renowned facial and body sculptor Dr. Jason Emer, Radiesse injections can provide remarkable enhancements. Dr. Emer is a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist who has devoted his career to developing techniques and proprietary treatments to meet the needs of his diverse patient-base.
As a result of Dr. Emer’s advanced treatments with Radiesse, Beverly Hills men and women can achieve natural-looking rejuvenation and contouring without the need for surgery or downtime.
WHAT IS RADIESSE?
Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler that contains calcium hydroxyapatite (CAHA) microspheres. It is FDA-approved to treat wrinkles and lost volume in the face and hands.
It has a thick, gel-like consistency that makes it ideal for hand rejuvenation and for moderate to severe facial creases around the mouth and nose. Dr. Emer uses Radiesse for a variety of off-label applications as well. He frequently injects Radiesse for:
- Cheek augmentation – Radiesse can fill, sculpt, and define the cheekbones for a beautiful facial contouring effect.
- Chin enhancement – Radiesse injections can be used to smooth out chin wrinkles and/or to augment the chin. Dr. Emer can inject Radiesse on the bone for shaping, lifting, and increased projection.
- Marionette lines – The vertical lines that form between the chin and mouth, often referred to as marionette lines, are frequently treated with Radiesse.
- Nasolabial folds – Also called smile lines or laugh lines, these creases extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth and can be effectively resolved with Radiesse.
- Jowls – Early signs of jowling, or heaviness and sagging, on the sides of the chin, can be corrected with Radiesse to improve jawline contours.
- Temple augmentation – A sunken look in the temples can add years to your facial appearance. Dr. Emer can inject Radiesse to replace lost volume in this area and refine your facial shape.
- Aged hands – Age-related volume loss in the backs of the hands causes our veins and tendons to be more noticeable. Hand rejuvenation with Radiesse lifts and fills the skin to restore a plump, youthful appearance.
RIGHT FOR YOU?
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR RADIESSE?
RADIESSE VS. HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR ME?
When it comes to determining which dermal filler is right for you, Dr. Emer will consider the quality of your skin, your specific contouring goals, and your personal preferences. Every dermal filler is distinct in its formulation, consistency, and intended applications. Treatment recommendations are based on which product will work best for your needs rather than from a perspective of one filler being better or worse than another.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, such as those in the Juvederm and Restylane families, are among the most popular facial fillers. These fillers capitalize on the hydrating effects of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that becomes less available as we age.
COLLAGEN STIMULATION
STRUCTURAL MATRIX
The CAHA microspheres in Radiesse create a supportive scaffold under the skin that gives the treated area form in a way that HA fillers cannot. This characteristic makes Radiesse ideal for chin and cheek augmentation.
It should be noted that due to Radiesse’s consistency, it is not used for lip augmentation or to treat areas with thinner, more delicate skin, like around the eyes. HA fillers are a better choice for such treatment sites.
LONGER-LASTING RESULTS
Radiesse involves less frequent retreatment to maintain improvements than the majority of HA fillers. The effects of many HA fillers only last about six months, while Radiesse results can last up to two years.
For some patients, such as those who are new to fillers and may not want to commit to a new look for potentially two years, HA fillers can be more appealing because their effects wear off sooner. HA fillers can even be dissolved using a product called hyaluronidase for a complete treatment reversal.
PROCEDURE DETAILS
HOW DOES RADIESSE WORK?
Local anesthesia can be used to ensure the injections are well-tolerated. Lidocaine can also be added to Radiesse injections to further minimize discomfort.
Antiseptic will be applied to the treatment area before Dr. Emer performs the injections.
Next, Dr. Emer will identify optimal injection sites by applying his advanced knowledge of anatomy and his experience with cosmetic injectables. This discernment is essential for providing safe Radiesse treatments that deliver incredible, natural-looking results.
Dr. Emer will then inject a precise amount of Radiesse at each carefully selected injection site. A pinching sensation may occur as Radiesse is injected, but the procedure is not considered particularly painful.
Radiesse can be injected using a thin needle. However, Dr. Emer typically uses a cannula when performing Radiesse injections. A cannula is a thin tube with a blunt tip that is associated with decreased post-procedure bruising and swelling.
Dr. Emer may massage the treated area after your injections for refinements in shape and symmetry. Once your procedure is complete, aftercare instructions will be reviewed with you.
After Radiesse injections, you will be able to go about the rest of your day as normal, for the most part. You will need to refrain from strenuous physical exertion and avoid exposing the treatment site(s) to sunlight, tanning beds, and heat for a minimum of 24 hours.
For some patients, the injection sites are tender and/or red for a day or two after the procedure. Swelling may occur but typically does not last more than a few days. These symptoms can be eased by applying ice packs or taking over-the-counter pain relief medication as directed by Dr. Emer.
You will notice the plumping and filling effects of Radiesse right away. The gel-like component of Radiesse adds instant volume, which is supported and stabilized by the microspheres.
Within seven days of your injections, Radiesse will have taken its full effect. Over time, Radiesse will provide additional improvements in the firmness and fullness of the skin as it works to optimize your body’s collagen formation process.
