WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF LIPOSUCTION FOR REMOVING FAT FROM THE ARMS?
While every liposuction technique can effectively remove fat from the body, each technique has distinct advantages and limitations. When it comes to upper arm fat removal, Dr. Emer and Dr. Rojas prefer to use minimally invasive liposuction methods over traditional liposuction.
Minimally invasive lipo is associated with shorter procedure times and quicker, more comfortable recovery periods than traditional liposuction. Some minimally invasive fat removal methods also facilitate significant reshaping and/or skin tightening.
Our doctors consider many factors when designing a patient’s arm liposuction treatment plan. In order to achieve maximum improvements, your arm liposuction procedure may involve a combination of advanced liposuction techniques like:
BodyTite and Renuvion are internal radiofrequency (RF) devices that are frequently incorporated into arm liposuction procedures at Dr. Emer’s Beverly Hills medical practice to capitalize on their “shrink wrap” skin tightening effects. These devices also assist in fat removal, as the RF energy delivered is intense enough to melt fat cells, so they can be easily suctioned away.
Since the RF heat generated during BodyTite and Renuvion treatments does not reach temperatures that are harmful to other types of cells, patients benefit from less post-procedure discomfort and reduced recovery times.
This liposuction technique employs ultrasound technology to liquify fat cells, so they can be extracted without causing injuries to the surrounding tissues. Not only does this method result in easier fat extraction, but the heat created by the ultrasound energy works to tighten skin and allows for a greater degree of sculpting than is possible with other techniques.
PAL offers several advantages over traditional suction-assisted liposuction (SAL). SAL involves vigorously moving a cannula back and forth manually throughout the treatment area to break up and extract unwanted fat. With PAL, a powered handpiece vibrates the cannula, effectively dislodging fat cells with minimal damage to the surrounding blood vessels and tissue.
PAL is associated with shorter procedure times and recovery periods than SAL. Since PAL causes significantly less trauma to the surrounding tissue than SAL, patients experience less post-op bruising and pain, as well.
First, you will be asked to change into a surgical gown. Our doctor will mark the upper arms to indicate ideal incision sites and create a visual guide he can use to precisely execute your arm liposuction procedure.
After anesthesia is administered and has taken effect, small incisions will be made in the treatment area. Incision locations will be selected carefully to minimize post-op marks and allow for an expedient and efficient procedure.
The next step is to employ WAL, RFAL, Vaser lipo, and/or PAL techniques to dislodge and soften fat cells. A surgical vacuum is used to extract the liquified fat. During this process, our doctor will take advantage of technique-specific opportunities for reshaping the arms and tightening the skin.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE ARM LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE?
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER FROM ARM LIPOSUCTION?
Avéli is an outpatient procedure that Dr. Emer performs at his relaxing, state-of-the-art medical practice in Beverly Hills. Avéli sessions last about one hour, on average.
For the first step of the procedure, you will be asked to stand while Dr. Emer marks the depressions he intends to target with Avéli. He will ask you to relax and contract the muscles in the treatment area in order to identify both superficial and deeper indentations.
Though this procedure is not considered to be painful, local anesthesia will be injected to ensure your comfort during treatment. Dr. Emer will begin your procedure once the anesthesia has taken its intended effect.
Next, Dr. Emer will make a small incision in a discreet location like the buttock crease. He will then insert the Avéli instrument through the incision, so he can carefully guide the device through the tissue just under the skin’s surface. The device has a lighted tip to assist in identifying problematic tethers that are causing dimples.
Once Dr. Emer locates a specific septa that is contributing to a cellulite dimple, he hooks it with the tip of the Avéli device. He can then utilize the device’s retractable blade to sever the fibrous band quickly and cleanly.
Completely releasing a cellulite dimple typically requires severing multiple septa. When all of the problematic fibrous bands associated with a depression have been severed, Dr. Emer will repeat the process on another dimple.
Avéli treatments include a verification process, so Dr. Emer can confirm, in real time, whether the targeted septa were successfully severed. This valuable feature allows for comprehensive smoothing in one treatment session.
