Go Beyond With Dr. Emer

CO2 lasers can be used all over the body. Dr. Emer often uses them as part of complex combination treatments for conditions such as acne scarring, or as a complement to improving surgical scarring in procedures such as facelifts and neck-lifts or mommy makeovers (tummy tucks and breast lifts), as well as traumatic scars and burns. A combination approach creates better results and reduces your overall recovery time.

Quick Intro

A Quick Intro to

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser delivers focused columns of strong heat energy into the skin, causing water within the skin cells to rapidly heat. This creates controlled damage to the surrounding tissue. The goal is to stimulate new collagen growth for smoother and tighter skin in the treatment area. Over the course of 3 to 7 days, the skin self-exfoliates to expose fresh, new skin layers, with improved color and collagen. In just a few weeks, you’ll be fully healed with tighter, smoother skin.

Deka Dot

Ablative Fractional Laser

As a powerful ablative fractional laser, Deka Dot is a resurfacing system that allows Dr. Emer to rejuvenate the skin, improve fine lines, and correct pigment irregularities and skin texture. One treatment session can provide visible results.

The laser is powerful yet gentle enough that even sensitive areas like the skin around the eyes can be treated for a subtle eye lift. Treatments are customized with various depths, passes and energy based on your ultimate goals. The Deka Dot is then applied several times under Dr. Emer’s artistic eye to treat target areas. Once skin has been thoroughly rejuvenated, a soothing serum is applied and a bandage may be applied. Stimulated collagen production begins immediately.

WORRIED ABOUT

PAIN?

We have options on hand to keep you comfortable. Dr. Emer’s team controls pain using nitrous gas, nerve blocks, topical creams and oral medications. Downtime can be minimal or extensive depending on what is being treated, but we can help speed up healing using stem cells and growth factors (PRP/acell), hyperbaric oxygen therapy, IV therapy, topical skincare products and RED light therapy.

Make Sure It’s Right for You

Dr. Emer’s patients enjoy personalized treatment plans designed for their skin tone. Since the healthy tissue in darker skin tones might absorb laser energy, altering the skin’s color, ablative lasers are more ideal for patients with lighter skin. This technology is also better suited to address surface-level problems such as shallow wrinkles, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. Patients should also not be experiencing an acne flare-up, as it can worsen breakouts.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing for Acne Scars

Dr. Emer uses, among other devices, the DeepFX and ActiveFX Ablative CO2 Laser to help resurface skin that’s been damaged by acne scars, sending focused laser energy deep into the tissue to remodel old scar tissue. This is where thousands of hours of experience is so valuable, as he skillfully controls the depth and amount of energy to achieve precise results. CO2 lasers are very powerful, and you need a doctor who is knowledgeable and careful, especially around the jawline. In less experienced hands, the device can actually cause something called hypertrophic scarring, where excess collagen deposits create a raised scar.

CO2 LASERS FOR

WRINKLES & SUN DAMAGE

The powerful CO2 laser expertly addresses cosmetic and medical issues. Sun damage can be the beginning stage of actinic keratoses, the development of squamous cell carcinomas. Actinic damage and pigmentation can be treated with a C02 laser, as can wrinkles.

A CO2 laser uses energy to vaporize damaged skin. Sun damage and wrinkles are precisely removed to allow the regrowth of younger-looking skin. It also promotes collagen production in the dermal layer, mimizing deeper wrinkles, removing sun damage and tightening skin.

Combination Treatments

CO2 Laser Combination Treatments

CO2 Lasers are an excellent complement to a number of other cosmetic and medical treatments, including those for fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and skin laxity. CO2 lasers promote collagen production and reduce recovery time.

Dr. Emer often uses it as part of more complex combination treatments for conditions such as acne scarring, or as a complement to surgeries such as facelifts and neck-lifts. In fact, CO2 laser therapy can accomplish more than any other procedure in 60- to 90-minute sessions. New collagen production can continue for months and years.

Targeting the top layers of the skin, carbon dioxide and an ultra-pulse beam is used to eliminate aging and damaged cells. Microscopic heat channels are created to promote collagen production, and blood vessels are cleared and tightened, giving off a renewed texture and brighter complexion.

CO2 Laser Treatments for Combination Treatments

At Emerage Medical, facelift surgeries are often combined with complementary procedures, such as eyelid surgery, buccal fat pad reduction or laser resurfacing treatments, in order to provide complete facial and neck rejuvenation. Using the ablative CO2 or erbium resurfacing lasers, Dr. Emer is able to achieve all types of great results.

He can improve deep layers of scarred and sun-damaged skin, such as discoloration or skin cancer; smooth fine lines and wrinkles; provide additional skin-tightening on the face and neck; create smooth, vibrant, and evenly textured skin; decrease discoloration and pore size; and promote cell regeneration and long-term collagen production for a more youthful appearance. In fact, he’s so experienced that he can actually take the CO2 laser right to the eyelash line, for precise results that are also perfectly safe.

We match how "YOUNG"
She feels

This female patient came in with concerns of saggy skin around the neck and face area. With various surgeries in the past, the patient was not pleased with the outcomes. Dr. Ardesh addressed all of her concerns of loose skin, as well as extra fat in her chin which does not match how young she feels.

PREPARING FOR YOUR
CO2 LASER PROCEDURE

Patients can begin preparing for their treatment by having a few supplies on hand. Antibacterial soap is needed for handwashing to keep germs from getting into the healing skin. Prior to a fractional CO2 skin resurfacing laser treatment, Dr. Emer will often pretreat the skin with a Cosmelan or Enlighten peel to prepare the skin cells and allow for a more effective and deeper penetration of the laser treatment. When used both before and after energy-based laser and radiofrequency procedures, Cosmelan and Enlighten peels can decrease the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), especially for those individuals with darker skin types.

Recovery, Downtime & Aftercare

Dr. Emer’s typical recovery protocol for CO2 laser procedures looks like this:

  • Valtrex twice daily for 7 days to prevent HSV outbreaks
  • Antibiotic twice daily for 7 days to prevent infection
  • Painkiller every 6 hours as needed for 2-3 days
  • Oxygen facials daily for 2-3 days.

If you’re planning to have an eyelid treatment, do not wear contacts on the day of the procedure and have someone ready to take you home. Given that this deep exfoliation of skin requires new skin to grow, starting in the deeper layers, the first two weeks are essential to be consistent with healing procedures. Redness and weeping can be expected.

To nourish your new skin growth, Dr. Emer will send you home with customized exfoliating serums. Optimal healing can also be achieved with barrier protection creams and hyaluronic acid, which harness the regenerative power of growth factors and stem cells, as well as at-home cooling masks and red light therapy to reduce weeping and redness.
