POST-OP RADIOFREQUENCY THERAPY

Conveniently located to serve Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Los Angeles, NYC, and Miami.

Renowned dermatological surgeon Dr. Jason Emer and his team of board-certified plastic surgeons frequently recommend post-op radiofrequency therapy for NYC patients recovering from cosmetic surgery. Our practice offers radiofrequency skin tightening, fat reduction, and contouring with advanced devices like Venus Legacy, BTL Exilis Ultra, and BTL Vanquish ME, so we can address a broad spectrum of patient needs.

HOW DO RADIOFREQUENCY TREATMENTS HELP DURING SURGICAL AFTERCARE?

Radiofrequency (RF) treatments are often used to enhance cosmetic surgery results by smoothing and refining body contours and accelerating the healing process. Some of the benefits of post-op RF treatments are to reduce or eliminate the following issues near the surgical site:

  • Scar tissue
  • Minor wrinkles and folds
  • Stretch marks
  • Cellulite (small pockets of fat under the skin)
  • Lymphatic fluid buildup
    Swelling
  • Skin laxity

RIGHT FOR YOU?

VENUS LEGACY, BTL EXILIS ULTRA, OR BTL VANQUISH ME: WHICH IS BEST FOR ME?

BTL Exilis Ultra releases both RF and ultrasound energy, giving us the ability to go deeper into the underlying skin. Venus Legacy combines RF waves with pulsed magnetic fields instead of ultrasound. Pulsed magnetic fields are valuable for tightening the skin, reducing volume as needed, and aiding cellular communication and metabolism.

While all of these devices emit radiofrequency energy, each has distinct advantages. Our body sculpting experts will select the device most suited to your needs and treatment goals. In many cases, it is advisable to utilize more than one RF device to maximize the healing process and shorten the recovery period as much as possible.

The patient’s goals for RF therapy are also a key consideration when developing a post-op RF care strategy. BTL Vanquish ME offers more targeted fat melting with minor skin tightening. BTL Exilis Ultra and Venus Legacy provide more significant skin tightening effects and a lesser degree of fat reduction.

The location and size of the treatment area can be a factor in determining the best RF treatment for a patient. The BTL Vanquish ME device is often best when there is a large surface area to treat due to the size and shape of the device’s applicator. BTL Vanquish ME’s contactless applicator can be placed over the torso, for instance, and facilitates simultaneous treatment of multiple areas, such as the flanks and abdomen, flanks and back, or the full buttocks.

Using one or more RF devices, we can provide noticeable tightening, firming, and slimming in the following areas:

Face
Neck
Chest
Arms
highs
Knees
Bra line

The Venus Legacy and BTL Exilis Ultra devices deliver RF waves via a handpiece. This means these treatments can be performed on smaller and more delicate and sensitive areas as they allow for greater precision than BTL Vanquish ME.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A POST-OP RADIOFREQUENCY SESSION

All RF devices emit radiofrequency waves to cause controlled thermal damage in a targeted area of the body. The body responds by initiating a variety of repair and revitalization processes that can deliver visible aesthetic improvements.

RF therapy for surgical aftercare serves both to optimize healing and enhance the improvements achieved with cosmetic surgery. Our intensive aftercare strategies typically combine multiple restorative therapies, and we tend to see the best post-op RF therapy results when it is used in conjunction with additional healing modalities.

Post-op RF therapy can complement the effects of lymphatic massage, which supports the drainage of lymphatic fluids and the elimination of toxins. Encouraging the healthy flow of lymphatic fluid throughout the body is important for efficient elimination of toxins which could otherwise accumulate and cause a range of unpleasant systems and/or impede efficient healing.

RF therapy during cosmetic surgery recovery helps with skin tightening and stimulates the formation of collagen. As the body ramps up its production of collagen in the weeks following an RF treatment, patients can start to notice firmer, smoother skin.

Additionally, radiofrequency energy has the ability to heat fat cells to the point of apoptosis (controlled cell death), so they can be dissolved and removed by the body. Non-invasive RF fat reduction can put the final touches on the slimmer contours you achieve with surgical body lifts, liposuction, and other cosmetic body shaping procedures.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A POST-OP RADIOFREQUENCY SESSION?

After your post-op radiofrequency session, you’ll be instructed to head back home to continue your procedural recovery. After a series of RF sessions, patients can notice more youthful-looking skin and firmer, smoother contours in the areas treated.

WHAT OTHER SURGICAL AFTERCARE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?

As part of our comprehensive surgical aftercare approach, we will likely advise combining post-op RF therapy with complementary treatments such as:

  • Lymphatic massage – Manual lymphatic drainage works to re-establish healthy lymphatic fluid movement to encourage detoxification and alleviate swelling. Daily lymphatic massages are typically recommended for the first week or two of cosmetic surgery recovery,
  • Hormone peptide therapy – With this treatment, we can boost the body’s supply of key peptides to support tissue repair and other aspects of the healing process.

  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) – HBOT allows patients to breathe 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. The pressurization allows the body to absorb a greater amount of oxygen than under normal conditions, which can then be put to use to power our natural healing processes.
  • IV therapy – Our Primetime IV infusion is designed to provide the body with the nutrients and fluids it needs to bounce back after a surgical procedure. NAD IV therapy is also a powerful post-op treatment, as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) plays a vital role in regenerative bodily processes and can reduce pain.
  • Post-op muscle toning – Since you will likely need several days or more of rest and reduced physical activity after your surgery, post-op BodyTone or truSculpt® flex sessions are a great addition to your surgical aftercare regimen. These devices can safely activate and tone muscles without putting you at risk for overexertion or otherwise disrupting the healing process.

CAN RADIOFREQUENCY TREATMENTS BE PERFORMED OUTSIDE OF SURGICAL AFTERCARE?

Yes, RF fat reduction and skin tightening is incorporated into many of our patients’ non-surgical facial and body sculpting treatment plans and aging prevention protocols. In fact, patients with mild skin laxity and minor, localized pockets of unwanted fat can often achieve their desired results without the need for surgery thanks to non-invasive RF therapy.

Additionally, RF therapy has allowed many of our patients to postpone or avoid the need for more invasive rejuvenation procedures to maintain their preferred look. As part of an anti-aging care plan, RF therapy can help patients preserve their smooth, youthful-looking skin by preventing and/or reducing wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, and other blemishes that can add years to one’s appearance.

To support long-term maintenance of a patient’s slim figure and shapely contours, Dr. Emer and his team often advise RF fat reduction treatments in combination with hormonal optimization and hormone peptide therapy for weight management and fat loss. This protocol is remarkably effective for staving off age-related fat accumulation around the midsection and in other problem areas.
