WHAT IS SILIKON 1000?

Silikon 1000 is an injectable form of medical-grade silicone that can be used for cosmetic enhancement. Dr. Emer can treat facial lipoatrophy (facial wasting), acne scars, and wrinkles with silicone injections. Unlike other types of fillers, silicone injections can provide permanent volume restoration and facial sculpting results.

Silicone injections for cosmetic enhancement are not widely available due to the high level of skill and artistry required to incrementally restore volume and sculpt aesthetic contours. Dr. Emer is able to safely treat patients with injectable silicone due to his extensive experience with this treatment.

Dr. Emer administers Silikon 1000 injections carefully and meticulously to ensure that the product does not migrate to other areas or clump to form large nodules beneath the skin. With Silikon 1000, Dr. Emer uses a conservative microdroplet technique to gradually build volume until you have achieved your desired contours.

To determine if you are an eligible candidate for this treatment, schedule a formal evaluation with an experienced, board-certified dermatologist and facial sculptor like Dr. Jason Emer. Once Dr. Emer has evaluated your condition, assessed your aesthetic goals, and carefully analyzed your medical history, he can formulate your ideal treatment protocol.

Silicone injections are not ideal for younger individuals with minor volume loss. For those patients, Dr. Emer typically recommends a combination of HA dermal fillers, semi-permanent fillers like Bellafill, Sculptra, fat grafting, and/or synthetic donor fat injections with PRP to restore volume safely and effectively.

Silicone injections are not the preferred method of treatment for the majority of patients. However, patients who are not good candidates for temporary fillers and/or for those seeking permanent improvements, silicone injections may be a good option. Candidates for Silikon 1000 injections are often:

  • Older individuals
  • Patients with HIV and other chronic illnesses who are suffering from facial lipoatrophy
  • Patients who have experienced facial or body trauma

ARE SILICONE INJECTIONS SAFE?

It is essential that silicone injections are performed by a highly skilled, specially trained medical professional. Silicone injections are a non-reversible filler and are incredibly difficult to remove without surgery. If injected too rapidly or in too high a quantity, silicone can cause granulomas (lumps or bumps in the skin), irregularities, and scar tissue.

INNOVATION

To best address his patients’ facial volume loss, Dr. Emer developed cutting-edge combination treatments. These volume restoration protocols often included Silikon 1000 injections along with autologous fat grafting, dermal fillers, Bellafill, Sculptra, and other cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures.

EXPERIENCE

Dr. Emer has unique clinical experience in treating facial volume loss with silicone injections. Long before he opened his own practice and earned his reputation as the “Cowboy of Facial Rejuvenation,” Dr. Emer launched a dedicated cosmetic HIV clinic at Mount Sinai in New York City, the same hospital where he completed his residency and two-year Dermatopharmacology Fellowship.

As a resident, Dr. Emer worked with numerous HIV patients on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Most of his patients at this clinic wanted cosmetic procedures to address the side effects of the HAART medication, including severe facial wasting (or lipoatrophy).

RESEARCH SUPPORTED

For patients with HIV or severe facial lipoatrophy, there are numerous clinical studies proving the safety and efficacy of Silikon 1000. Dr. Emer can strategically inject this subdermal filler into sunken or hollow areas to rejuvenate and volumize the face and improve wrinkles, folds, and overall skin texture.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A SILICONE INJECTION TREATMENT

Dr. Emer performs Silikon 1000 injections at his state-of-the-art West Hollywood medical practice. Silikon 1000 injections can typically be performed in 30 minutes or less per treatment area.

Silicone injections can be painful due to the thickness of the substance, the size of the needle, and the limitations regarding numbing medication. Because Silikon 1000 cannot be mixed or diluted with lidocaine, Dr. Emer uses topical numbing cream and ice packs to diminish some of the discomfort.

Dr. Emer also replaces the injection needle regularly during treatment, which has been shown to significantly reduce pain intensity and decrease the chance of swelling and bruising. While he uses cannulas for many other dermal filler injections, Dr. Emer does not recommend cannula injection for silicone placement as it can lead to linear collagen production and asymmetrical results.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SILIKON 1000 INJECTIONS

Although patients experience more bleeding with silicone injections than with HA dermal fillers or fat injections (due to the size of the needle), there is actually very little downtime following a silicone injection. Patients may experience bruising and swelling for two to three days following treatment but are generally able to resume their everyday activities without interruption.

SILICONE INJECTION RESULTS

While silicone injections are permanent, results are not immediately visible after the initial treatment. For significant improvement, microdroplet injections must be administered over an extended period of time to stimulate the natural collagen-building process.

Injections are needed every four to eight weeks until optimal correction is achieved. For regular maintenance, Dr. Emer recommends treatments once or twice per year to maintain the results as the aging process continues.

SYNTHETIC FAT GRAFTING

Renuva Adipose Matrix synthetic fat grafting is an alternative to facial fat transfer which utilizes purified donor fat from cadavers to provide small-volume aesthetic improvements without the need for a fat removal procedure.

RADIESSE

Radiesse is a thick, soft tissue, calcium-based filler with substantial lift capacity lasts 12 to 15 months and builds new collagen over time. Larger volumes of Radiesse placed in the fat or bone can lift the skin and give significant and immediate changes in facial contours.

SURGICAL IMPLANTS,

Surgical implants can dramatically transform the face and provide improved shape, structure, balance, and symmetry. Silicone implants are permanent, durable, customizable, and reversible if desired.

BELLAFILL

Bellafill is an injectable filler comprised of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in a collagen gel. This semi-permanent filler increases volume in the treated area and promotes long-term improvements in your body’s natural collagen production.

FAT GRAFTING

Fat grafting to the face is a minimal downtime approach to volume restoration and facial sculpting. Facial fat grafting involves removing unwanted fat from one area of your body, so it can be purified, enriched, and made into fat injections. Dr. Emer can perform facial fat grafting to provide long-term improvements in facial contours.

SILICONE INJECTIONS FOR FACIAL LIPOATROPHY

Facial lipoatrophy is characterized by dramatic fat loss in the face. This condition occurs most commonly in the cheeks, temples, smile lines (nasolabial regions), and eye sockets.

While a moderate amount of fat loss occurs as part of the natural aging process, for those with chronic illnesses (such as HIV, lupus, cancer, or malnutrition), facial lipoatrophy occurs more rapidly. Those who are highly active metabolizers, such as those who exercise frequently, run marathons, or adhere to weight loss diets, can also experience rapid weight loss in the face.

When the face loses its fullness, the cheeks become concave, and the bone structures and muscles become more prominent. The result is a “bony,” “hollow,” or “wasted” look. Because facial lipoatrophy is so visibly apparent to the outside world, it can greatly impact a person’s confidence.

To restore volume to these depleted areas, Dr. Emer injects microdroplets of Silikon 1000 deep beneath the skin of the midface or cheeks, nose, temples, facial folds (such as nasolabial folds), chin/chin crease, and jawline. The injections stimulate long-term collagen production and ultimately revolumize the treated areas.

In some cases, Dr. Emer may use Silikon 1000 in combination with temporary fillers to provide immediate volume. He may recommend pairing Silikon 1000 injections with fillers such as Bellafill, Radiesse, Sculptra, and/or hyaluronic acid-based (HA) fillers like Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Defyne.

ARE SILICONE INJECTIONS REVERSIBLE?

Because silicone is a permanent alternative to temporary fillers, the only way to remove the substance is through surgical intervention. However, if you have unwanted effects after silicone injections, Dr. Emer has found that some improvement may be achieved with diluted Kenalog (triamcinolone acetonide) combined with 5-FU (fluorouracil) and radiofrequency treatments like Venus Legacy, InMode Forma/Contoura, and BTL Exilis Ultra.

HOW MUCH DO SILICONE INJECTIONS COST?

The price of your silicone injection treatment will depend on the size of the treatment area(s), the optimal dosage for you, and how many injections are needed to achieve your desired outcome.
