WHAT IS DAXXIFY?
Daxxify is an injectable neuromodulator that reduces the appearance of glabellar lines, also called frown lines or “11” lines. Frown lines develop between the eyebrows as a result of repetitive muscle contractions. Each time we furrow our brow or frown, specific facial muscles activate, and the movement of these muscles creates folds in the overlying skin.
Over time, these vertical creases can deepen, causing glabellar lines to be visible even when we intend to have a neutral or happy facial expression. Many patients who seek treatment for frown lines do so because they are frustrated with others perceiving them as upset or angry all of the time. Frown lines can also cause an aged or tired facial appearance.
Since the FDA’s approval of Botox for cosmetic use over two decades ago, and the later approval of Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau, injectable products containing botulinum toxin type A have been the preferred treatment for releasing frown lines. The active ingredient in Daxxify, which received FDA approval in 2022 for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles, is also botulinum toxin type A.

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR DAXXIFY
Daxxify is a suitable frown line treatment for many men and women. Candidates must be in good health and have an accurate understanding of what Daxxify can and cannot accomplish. It is important that candidates understand that Daxxify results are temporary, so they will need additional injections sessions to prevent frown lines from reappearing and/or worsening.
In order to determine if you are an ideal candidate for Daxxify, Dr. Emer will need to gather some information about your current and prior medical conditions and any facial surgeries you have had in the past. Be sure to advise Dr. Emer if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant, as this can affect your candidacy and your proposed treatment schedule.
Dr. Emer will also ask you about your previous experience with injectable wrinkle relaxing treatments like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and/or Jeuveau. Patients who have developed Botox resistance can be good candidates for Daxxify. However, patients who have a known allergy to botulinum toxin products should not receive Daxxify injections, nor should anyone who has a skin infection in the treatment area.

HOW DOES DAXXIFY WORK?
Daxxify works by temporarily incapacitating treated facial muscles to release and prevent the contractions that cause frown lines. When the neurotoxin, botulinum toxin type A, is injected at a low, specific dosage into an overactive muscle, it blocks the nerve signals that would cause the muscle to contract.
As long as Daxxify is active in the muscle, the muscle will be held in a state of relaxation, which means the skin between the eyebrows can remain smooth and flat. After several months, Daxxify will wear off. If you do not have additional injections, the muscles will resume normal function, and your frown lines will reappear.

Preparing for Daxxify injections primarily involves avoiding certain medications before your appointment, including aspirin, ibuprofen, allergy medications, blood thinners, topical steroids, and sleep medications. You will also be advised to avoid taking specific supplements, such as fish oil, St. John’s Wort, and those that contain Vitamin E.

Patients typically tolerate the injections well and often describe feeling a pinching sensation with each injection. Though this treatment is not considered to be painful, a topical numbing product can be applied prior to your injections to make this quick, convenient treatment as comfortable as possible.
Daxxify does not require a recovery period, downtime, or intensive aftercare. Most patients can resume their normal schedule of activities, such as returning to work, immediately after a Daxxify procedure. Post-injection discomfort is usually minimal.
Some patients experience tenderness, redness, or minor swelling at the injection sites. These effects typically subside within a day or two and often dissipate within a few hours.

Daxxify delivers results quicker than other injectable neuromodulators which can take several days to take effect. With Daxxify, some patients notice improvements within a day of treatment, and most will see a reduction in frown lines within two days. The full extent of your Daxxify injections can be expected within two weeks.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO GET DAXXIFY INJECTIONS?
Daxxify provides longer-lasting results than Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin, which wear off after three to four months, on average. In contrast, Daxxify keeps frown lines at bay for about six months for most patients, and some patients have reported that their Daxxify results last for up to nine months.
