BACK LIPOSUCTION
Conveniently located to serve Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Los Angeles, NYC, and Miami.
For many men and women, no matter how much they exercise or how disciplined their diet, stubborn pockets of back fat persist. Back liposuction is often the ideal or only solution for permanently eliminating exercise-resistant fat in this area.
Dr. Jason Emer is a world-renowned body sculptor and top provider of a specialized fat removal and body contouring treatment called hi-definition liposculpting. He is proud to offer meticulously personalized back liposuction for Beverly Hills patients and patients in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and throughout the globe.
WHAT IS BACK LIPOSUCTION?
Back liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that creates a leaner, shapelier torso via fat reduction. Back liposuction treatments may focus on the upper back, mid back, or lower back if fat is particularly localized. In other cases, it is best to address the back as a whole.
When you first meet with Dr. Emer to discuss back fat removal, he will physically examine your back, paying special attention to the quality of your skin, as well as the distribution of excess fat. He can then determine whether liposuction of the upper, mid, and/or lower back is the best approach to achieving your aesthetic goals.
- Upper back liposuction
Upper back liposuction procedures are typically performed to address fat deposits near the armpit area on the outer-upper back as well as a buffalo hump. Buffalo hump liposuction addresses the rounded mound of fat that accumulates in the back of the neck and between the shoulder blades in the middle of the upper back. - Mid back liposuction
Mid back liposuction is necessary if there is excess infra-scapular fat, such as “bra bulges” below the shoulder blades. Fat in the mid back can be very dense and fibrous and may require a different lipo technique than liposuction for the lower or upper back. - Lower back liposuction
Patients with unflattering fat accumulation in the flanks (lovehandles) will need lower back lipo to snatch the waistline. Lower body liposuction can also remove fat to contour the lumbo-sacral fat pad region, located just above the tailbone in the center of the lower back.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BACK LIPOSUCTION?
Dr. Emer prefers a minimally invasive approach to back liposuction over traditional liposuction. Traditional liposuction causes a greater degree of tissue damage, requires larger incisions, and involves a longer recovery than less invasive methods.
Additionally, traditional lipo cannot target fat situated as deeply or as superficially as alternative lipo techniques. Fat extracted using traditional lipo is less viable for use in fat transfer as well.
Dr. Emer is skilled in multiple liposuction techniques that are not as invasive as traditional lipo. He determines the best type of liposuction for back fat removal on a case-by-case basis, as the quantity and location of targeted fat differs from one patient to the next.
Dr. Emer typically combines two or more of the following liposuction techniques to remove back fat:
The Body-Jet water-assisted liposuction system breaks up fat with a pressurized stream of water. Suction is then used to remove the loose fat through a tiny tube called a cannula, which is inserted via small incisions.
Like VASER liposuction, power-assisted lipo is advantageous for high definition results that involve significant body contouring. This lipo option aids in separating fat cells from tissue through use of a cannula with a vibrating tip.
BACK LIPO WITH SKIN TIGHTENING
Dr. Emer recommends pairing back liposuction with minimally invasive skin tightening, even in younger patients with very elastic skin. Immediately after back lipo, Dr. Emer uses internal heating devices to wrap the skin tightly to the new, improved contours of your back.
Dr. Emer often employs Renuvion’s RF and helium plasma technology. He also frequently uses RF-based devices like ThermiRF and BodyTite for skin tightening after back fat removal.
BACK LIPO WITH FAT GRAFTING
Dr. Emer’s use of advanced liposuction methods allows him to harvest fat cells from your back that are viable for fat grafting. Optimal fat transfer outcomes require a high percentage of intact fat cells, so gentler lipo techniques, like VASER must be used if the patient intends to undergo further sculpting via fat injections.
The fat extracted from your back must be purified before it can be injected to add volume elsewhere in your body. Dr. Emer relies on PureGraft filtration to remove debris, blood, and other contaminants from the fat.
After Dr. Emer enriches the purified fat with platelet-rich plasma and stem cells, he can administer fat injections to enlarge and contour the buttocks (Brazilian Butt Lift), augment the breasts, shape and define musculature, and restore lost facial volume.
HD LIPOSCULPTING VS. LIPOSUCTION FOR THE BACK
Back liposuction is intended for bulk fat removal. The goal of back lipo is to provide a slimming effect and improve the torso contours. After this procedure, a woman’s bra straps will not create bulges or lumps across the back. Patients will notice a major difference in how their shirts and tops fit after back fat removal.
The focus of HD liposculpting for the back is also to remove fat. However, HD lipo is about precision and definition. HD lipo patients are fitter and leaner than back liposuction patients. Their motivation for back fat removal is to showcase and enhance the muscle definition they have achieved by consistently working out.
With HD back liposuction, Dr. Emer utilizes advanced liposculpting techniques to deepen grooves and darken shadows for more dramatic definition of the back muscles and a final outcome that emanates fitness and athleticism.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Total recovery time after this procedure is impacted by the amount of fat removed, the type of liposuction performed, and whether you combined back lipo with additional body contouring treatments. It takes several months to fully recover from back liposuction, but you will notice improvements and be able to return to your regular activities well before then.
Bruising, tenderness, and/or swelling is to be expected after back fat removal. Wearing a compression garment, as advised by Dr. Emer, can help to alleviate these symptoms more quickly.
Patients should wait a minimum of two weeks before engaging in higher intensity activities. Around that time, you will notice that swelling has dissipated significantly.
Embrace aftercare
Dr. Emer is a long-time advocate of multimodal aftercare to support healing and maximize improvements after liposuction. Treatments that help to flush waste, improve circulation, and prevent scar tissue are especially important in the first two weeks after back lipo.
Dr. Emer’s aftercare protocols typically include several of the following therapies:
- Lymphatic massage
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- IV therapy
- Shockwave therapy with Cellutone
- RF treatments with Exilis Ultra or Venus LegacY
- LED LightStim therapy
Be patient
Your body needs time and rest to heal properly. Rushing your recovery can put you at risk for complications and may compromise your results, so have patience with the healing process.
Movement is medicine
Dr. Emer will advise you when it is safe to engage in light exercise, such as walking. Gentle movement is essential during your back liposuction recovery, as it promotes healthy circulation.
As healing progresses, Dr. Emer will help you transition from low intensity exercise to full intensity activities.
This tip will continue to be relevant beyond your recovery period. Consistent exercise is essential to further improve muscle definition and to maintain a slim figure long-term.
Commit to a nutritious diet
Nourishing your body with clean, nutrient-rich food is an important aspect of expedient healing. Avoid greasy, sugary, and processed foods, as they are known to cause inflammation in the body and are often devoid of significant nutritional value.
Along with regular exercise, make eating a healthy diet and watching your caloric intake a lifestyle, so you can enjoy your back lipo results for many years.
Dr. Emer has many patients who prefer a non-invasive approach to body contouring. He can create a treatment plan for you that will reduce back fat and revise the contours of your torso.
Unlike liposuction, which can remove significant amounts of fat in a single treatment, a series of treatment sessions is typically needed to achieve the best results with less invasive fat reduction treatments. Fat reduction treatments that may be recommended include:
- BTL Vanquish ME – Non-invasive, permanent fat reduction is possible with BTL Vanquish ME. Vanquish emits radiofrequency energy to heat subcutaneous fat. Fat is damaged at lower heat levels than other cells, so the device can kill fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues. The body’s lymphatic system then works to process the dead fat cells for natural elimination from the body in the months following a Vanquish treatment.
- BTL Exilis Ultra – Exilis Ultra combines the benefits of external RF heating and external ultrasound energy-based heating. This treatment not only targets and eradicates fat cells, it also provides significant skin tightening.
- Kybella – Kybella is FDA-approved to reduce submental fat, but Dr. Emer has also successfully used this injectable treatment to shrink small fat deposits throughout the body.
HOW DOES DR. EMER DO BACK LIPOSUCTION DIFFERENTLY?
Dr. Emer’s most elite back fat removal and torso contouring treatments are those included in 360 HD liposculpture procedures. 360 HD lipo is Dr. Emer’s signature body shaping procedure for total body transformation.
360 HD liposculpting combines precision fat removal with fat transfer and minimally invasive skin tightening to transform multiple problem areas in one procedure. HD lipo can be paired with body lift surgeries, such as brachioplasty (arm lift), abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and/or a thigh lift. It may also include muscle implants.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REMOVE BACK FAT?
The price of back liposuction is impacted by the duration of the procedure, the liposuction techniques used, and anesthesia and facility fees. Once Dr. Emer has designed your specific back lipo treatment plan, the cost associated with your procedure will be determined and reviewed with you.
