WHAT IS FACIAL FAT GRAFTING?
Fat injections are a type of dermal filler that can be used to replace facial volume and create symmetrical, youthful facial contours. Facial fat grafting involves taking fat from one area of your body to create fat injections that Dr. Emer can use to refine your facial features.
Facial fat transfer surgery is more invasive than other dermal filler procedures. The process has three main parts:
Extraction – Liposuction is performed to extract fat from a selected site on your body.
Purification – Microfiltration eliminates any contaminants and unnecessary elements in the fat before it is injected.Injections – The purified fat is injected to reshape, lift, and define your facial features.
While it is a more invasive facial sculpting technique, it can be ideal for patients who want to eliminate excess fat in another area of the body and prefer the use of their own tissue as a filler over a synthetic injectable. DR.JASON EMER’S OPTIMIZED FAT EXTRACTION PROCESS
The first step of the autologous fat grafting procedure is to harvest excess fat from a pre-determined site on the body, most commonly from the thighs, abdomen, arms, or flanks. Dr. Emer uses the water-assisted Body-Jet fat removal system to separate fat cells from the surrounding tissues for removal. As the Body-Jet system allows for precise control of the tumescent fluid, damage to fat cells and lymphatic tissue can be avoided, unlike with other systems. Post-procedure bruising and swelling in the area is also minimized with Body-Jet. Once fat cells have been detached, VASER lipo is performed to extract the fat cells and simultaneously contour and sculpt the extraction site. Since VASER lipo uses ultrasound energy and creates heat under the skin, patients benefit from skin tightening and improved definition at the fat removal site. Dr. Emer considers VASER lipo the optimal liposuction method for this step of the fat extraction procedure as it preserves the integrity of fat cells.
