What is microneedling?
The perfect complement to laser procedures, microneedling has become Dr. Jason Emer’s most popular treatment in the pursuit of skin rejuvenation and aging prevention. Microneedling is a quick, minimal-downtime procedure that allows for significant enhancement in skin texture, pore size, complexion, acne, melasma, pigmentation, scarring, wrinkles, dark circles beneath the eyes, and numerous skin imperfections. Dr. Emer’s clients in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood are thrilled with the way that microneedling rejuvenates the appearance, improving quality of life and well being.
What are the benefits of microneedling?
- Kickstarts collagen production – As we age, we lose our abundant supply of the body’s age-reversing protein, collagen, a compound that helps seal in moisture and ensure a smooth, radiant complexion. Microneedling triggers the body’s natural wound-healing response mechanism, allowing for an increase in collagen and subsequently more youthful-looking skin.
- Helps correct facial scarring – Acne scars in particular respond wonderfully to microneedling. In clinical trials, patients found the severity of their scars significantly reduced and found no ill side effects from the treatment.
- Helps speed up the absorption of topical serums – Microneedling helps to decrease the sizes of the pores and allows the skin to retain more moisture. After a microneedling session, the skin may be more susceptible to serums, nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins, which in the long term is highly beneficial when it comes to fighting off free radical damage from the environment as well as from stress and aging.
- Helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines – Sagging, wrinkled skin can be revitalized by using microneedling, while fine lines, creases and folds can be gently reversed. What’s more, microneedling is more cost-effective than most laser and light treatments.

How does microneedling work?
Using a portable handheld device, Dr. Emer, his nurses, and his physician assistants penetrate the desired areas with miniature needles, triggering fine pinpoint bleeding and stimulating new collagen production. When paired with radiofrequency (Microneedling RF), heat energy is simultaneously delivered to the sublayers of the skin, eliciting skin tightening and aiding in collagen production.
Dr. Emer also uses microneedling as a post-laser treatment—in combination with topical cosmeceuticals, natural growth factors, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and stem cells (Acell)—to improve the outcome of the procedure, activate skin healing, reduce redness, and assist with absorption of the nutrients, topicals and PRP.
