ACNE SCARRING | SKIN RESURFACING

Our patient, Audrey, came to Dr. Emer’s office with concerns regarding her acne scarring. Although minimal, her scarring had begun to irritate and frustrate her due to the imbalanced, jagged appearance they gave to her skin. After consulting with Dr. Emer, she expressed to him how she’s looking for a highly effective solution that requires minimal treatment sessions to achieve results. After carefully listening to her concerns, Dr. Emer suggested a CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment. The ablative CO2 laser was ideal due to its ability to promote deep collagen production and stimulate high cellular turnover by utilizing different wavelengths. The CO2 laser is all-in-all a great solution to combat acne scars, sun-damaged skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. This laser uses very short-pulsed light energy that moves in a scanning pattern, to slough off thin layers of skin to promote cellular turnover and collagen production in the treated areas. We achieve this by locally “injuring” damaged and aged skin cells. The stimulated collagen production takes place both during and after the procedure, which leaves less room for acne scars to form again, therefore, leaving the patient with long-term youthful, glowing and even skin. To help the skin heal, Dr. Emer combined the CO2 laser with a micro-needling treatment in conjunction with topically applied platelet-rich plasma (PRP) containing growth factors and stem cells to cool and nurture the skin post-laser treatment.
