Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Healthy women of many ages can be candidates for eyelid surgery. Most female blepharoplasty patients are over the age of 40, as this is when the aging process commonly begins to cause significant visible effects on the skin around the eyes.
Advanced signs of aging can appear sooner in some patients than in others, so younger women can also be candidates for blepharoplasty. In many cases, mild or early signs of aging around the eyes can be resolved with non-surgical eye rejuvenation treatments.
Non-surgical interventions can work to encourage healthier, stronger skin, to replace lost volume, and/or to subtly lift and tighten skin. It is important to note that these therapies offer temporary enhancement, while eyelid surgery for women can provide eyelid rejuvenation results that last for many years.
Female Eyelid Surgery Consultation: The First Step
The first step toward a more youthful appearance in the eye area is a consultation. Your initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your cosmetic concerns and to discover the best treatment options for you.
As part of your consultation, the treatment area will be evaluated, and your medical history will be reviewed. You will also be invited to ask questions and view before and after photos of our previous eyelid rejuvenation patients.
If you are a candidate for eyelid surgery, you will be provided with information on how to prepare for surgery, what your unique procedure will entail, and what to expect during your recovery. It is our goal that patients are well-informed and comfortable at every step of the treatment process.
What Does Eyelid Surgery for Women Involve?
On the day of your surgery, anesthesia will be administered. After the medication has taken effect, Dr. Sanan will make tiny incisions, so he can access the tissue and muscle of the eyelids. He is meticulous about the placement of the incisions to ensure that post-treatment marks will not be noticeable.
Once Dr. Sanan has made all of the changes needed for achieving your desired outcome, he will close the incisions. You will then be monitored by our caring team until it is safe for you to go home. You will be able to go home the same day as your procedure, but you must plan for a friend or loved one to drive you.
You will be given detailed instructions to guide you through your eyelid surgery recovery period. It is important for you to rest and to take extreme care to protect the eyelids from excessive force and/or abrasion as the area heals.
Our Approach to Eyelid Surgery for Women
The key to natural looking results with eyelid rejuvenation procedures is a holistic perspective. Dr. Emer often recommends that women combine eyelid surgery with complementary surgical and/or non-surgical procedures to ensure a harmonious facial appearance.
A refined artistic eye is also essential for creating feminine eyelid contours when performing eyelid rejuvenation treatments for women. Female patients typically desire eyes that have a rounded, wider appearance. An upper eyelid lift can be an optimal solution for women who seek a more feminine and youthful look.
Under-eye bag surgery, or lower blepharoplasty, can also provide dramatic facial rejuvenation for women. Dr. Sanan’s advanced training and extensive experience allow him to successfully eliminate eye bags and create smooth, aesthetic lower eyelid contours. In contrast, less qualified surgeons frequently leave patients with a sunken look under the eyes.
To ensure a desirable outcome, Dr. Sanan uses a particularly conservative approach when removing and repositioning tissue around the eyes of female patients. Women have thinner facial skin than men, which means that subtle changes to the underlying tissue will have greater visible effects.
What Is the Cost of Eyelid Surgery for Women?
The price of eyelid surgery will depend on whether an upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, or combination procedure is recommended for you. After meeting with you for a consultation, our facial plastic surgeon will determine the ideal approach for rejuvenating your upper face. Your treatment plan and pricing details will then be reviewed with you.
