EYELID SURGERY
Conveniently located to serve Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and Los Angeles.
WHAT IS eyelid surgery?
For some individuals, the effects of aging appear on the eyelids as puffy eye bags, dark under-eye circles, loose skin, and droopy or hooded upper eyelids. These unwanted, highly visible signs of aging can be reversed through blepharoplasty, which is cosmetic eyelid surgery.
A surgical eyelid lift involves the removal of excess fat, skin, and muscle from the eyelids to restore a more youthful appearance. Eyelid lift surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids (upper blepharoplasty) and lower eyelids (lower blepharoplasty).

Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery begins with the application of a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, Dr. Emer and Dr. Sanan will identify and mark the optimal areas for tissue removal.
With upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Sanan takes the utmost care to ensure normal eyelid closure, a natural-looking lift, and aesthetic eyelid contours. A discreet incision will be made in the natural upper eyelid crease. Dr. Sanan can then revise the upper eyelid to achieve your treatment goals.
Upper blepharoplasty primarily involves the excision of overhanging skin to resolve a “hooded” look and to address vision limitations caused by excess skin. In some cases, a small amount of fat or muscle may also be removed. When all adjustments have been made, the surgeon will close the incisions.
Depending on your lower eyelid cosmetic concerns, Dr. Sanan will make an incision below the lower eyelash line or on the inside of the lower eyelid. Excess tissue will be adjusted or excised as needed to resolve signs of aging.

Dr. Emer’s Approach to Eye Bag Surgery
Many of Dr. Emer’s blepharoplasty patients are seeking treatment for under-eye bags. Under-eye bags are a result of herniated fat pockets below the eyes and above the cheekbones. Patients with under-eye bags can experience particularly remarkable transformation as a result of a lower blepharoplasty combined with Dr. Emer’s precision CO2 laser resurfacing.
For this type of lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Emer’s plastic surgeon will make an incision on the inside of the eyelid. Fat is then removed or repositioned to resolve the under-eye bags and create youthful contours in the lower eyelid and upper cheek areas.
Once the surgery is complete and the incision is closed, Dr. Emer begins the non-surgical periocular eyelid rejuvenation procedure. First, the patient’s eyes are numbed with eye drops, treated with a lubricant gel, and protected with metal eye shields. Dr. Emer then performs CO2 laser resurfacing or uses an ablative laser like Erbium to tighten the skin and smooth lines and wrinkles. The eye shields are removed once the area has been treated.
Eyelid Lift Recovery
Eyelid surgery recovery typically involves seven to 14 days of downtime. Dr. Emer will closely monitor your recovery and provide guidance regarding when you can return to work and resume your normal activities.
To accelerate the healing process following eyelid surgery, Dr. Emer recommends various restorative treatments, including IV Hydration Therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), oxygen facials, LightStim LED Light Therapy, and a customized skincare protocol.
Eyelid Surgery Results
You can expect to see initial eyelid lift results after about two weeks. Final results are typically achieved after two or three months when the area has healed completely.
Blepharoplasty results last many years. Dr. Emer can help you maintain your youthful look by recommending skincare and in-office cosmetic treatments.
